ants ascend legs
pausing briefly at stomach
laying their eggs
taking stock of surroundings
and minuscule miracles
fall like hot cocoa
and the soldiers are trapped
in the chocolate rain

porous but dry
the sponge dreams of the sea
and he pauses to sigh
as infections occur
and stunning soliloquies
fizzle like antacids
regurgitated
for later digestion

and sometimes I feel that I’m
stuck on the perimeter
always outside of your kitchen sublime
and sometimes I feel that I’m
right in the thick of it
I mustn’t forget to write down all of my dream s

harried but hallowed
the bundles of daydreams are
fuel for the flames of
realization’s release
and musical monotone
summons a symphony
which is reduced
to a tune like a breeze

and sometimes I feel that I’m
trapped on the edges
locked out of rooms of our mutual design
and sometimes I feel that I’m
right in the midst of it
I’ll always remember to make up new words
